Call with the CEO

Whoa.  I just got off the phone with Carl Daikeler.  Know him?  If not, he’s the CEO of Beachbody.  The head honcho.  The big man on campus.  The one in charge.

Every month, he hosts a call for all Success Starters.  Because I earned Success Club during my first month as a coach, I was invited to take part.

It’s a pretty crazy opportunity, to be honest.  You are constantly rewarded for being a go-getter.  For getting out there and trying harder than the person next to you.  And you know what’s funny?  All I’m doing is helping others.  I’m showing them what is working for me and then inviting them to take part.  There’s no strange pitches or uncomfortable marketing schemes.  It’s all about sharing with friends – and helping them jump onboard.

I already earned Success Club for February as well, now if I earn it in March – I’ll get a FREE ticket to SUMMIT in June in LAS VEGAS!   Wooooo hoo!  I’m 2/3 of the way there!

Hope some of you can join me!  🙂

Yowch! STREP.

Harper was diagnosed with Strep Throat on Monday, but I felt fine.  Mayyyybe a little cough, but nothing terrible.  By Tuesday morning, it was clear that Eric and I would need to go into the Doc, as well.   It just kept getting worse and worse and worse, but hopefully I’m now on the mend.

Have you ever had absolutely violent chills?  I mean, I actually bit part of my cheek and tongue, because I had no control over the chattering of my jaw!  Yikes.  All day long my fever has gone up and down and up and down – with chills and sweats to follow.  It has been a trying day, but it’s getting better.  🙂  We are so lucky that Eric’s job is flexible and allows him to work from home.  He was able to stay and help with Harper.  Mind you, he wasn’t feeling much better than I was, but at least it was an extra set of hands!

As you can imagine, my workout was just not in the cards today.  I am hoping to be better by tomorrow, so I can double up.  Although, I’ve got to be honest, I am STILL SORE from Monday’s “Total Body Cardio Fix”.  I mean, my butt and thighs are aching to sit or stand.  All day Tuesday, it was a serious process to go to the bathroom.  LOL.

We have a lot of great interest in the next round of “The 21-Day Fix”, so I’m feeling pretty great about that.  Some of my most favorite ladies are joining up to take the Beachbody world by storm.  It should be crazy fun – and, by then, I’ll be a pro.  😉Screen Shot 2014-02-19 at 9.18.33 AM

21-Day Fix BEGINS

Day one of the 21-Day Fix is DONE.  And it was great!

Basically, all Beachbody programs are composed of exercise, nutrition, and Shakeology.  The Shakeology I’ve been rocking for a couple of months now – so that was a no-brainer.  But let’s talk nutrition and exercise…

The 21-Day Fix comes with color-coded containers to help you master portion control.  Based on my weight requirements, I get 5 green (veggies), 3 purple (fruits), 5 red (proteins), 4 yellow (carbs), 1 blue (fats), 1 orange (seeds/dressing), and 5 teaspoons (nut butters, EVOO).  This is a LOT OF FOOD.  I was really surprised, actually, because the containers look very small.  But, in order to get through all of them in a day, you are never hungry – mainly because there is no time to be!  I was eating all day long.  ShakeO, grapes, a salad, chicken breast, spaghetti, Greek yogurt, steel cut oats, apple, etc.  I must say that actually planning out my week was a little tricky – but I think I’ll get better with time.

As for exercise, the 21-Day Fix comes with 7 routines.  You do a different one each day of the week.  So, I only know 1 of the routines so far and it was completely killer!  It is called “Total Body Cardio” and is 30 minutes in length.  Essentially, after your warmup, you progress through 4 rounds of exercises.  Each exercise lasts 1 minute and you get a 20 second rest between exercises.  I was AMAZED at how quickly the 30 minutes was up – even when each minute felt like a lifetime.

AND.  My thighs have been burning all.  day.  long.

Day one done and I’m feeling good!  We’ll see where I’m at in 3 weeks!

Valentine’s Day and Stuff

Whoa!  Welcome back, Katie.

My family took a trip to Disney World from Friday to Wednesday…and then decided to stay at the Mouse House until Saturday.  We were just having *too* much fun!

…but that also meant that I was a little distracted and away from my business.

Let me just say:  I LOVE being a Beachbody coach.  I love that it is all about helping people – and that I am my own boss.  I am able to do all of my work from wherever I am.  In line for “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh,” I was able to message my challengers.  While getting a sweet treat from the Big Top bakery, I posted a photo on my coaching page.  In the early morning after Harper woke up, I was able to log onto my computer and respond to all interested customers.

It’s just incredible to be so free and IN CHARGE.  I love being in control of my life.

Anyways, the trip was amazing.  It was so much fun to play around Disney World with the whole fam.  Harper was lovely the entire trip (even though she likes to wake up very, very early).  She is a happy girl and thrives on routine – so she took her regular naps and all that jazz.  But she also fell in love with “real people food”.  This girl cannot be stopped!  No more Gerber purees for her.  Harps wants to eat chicken and eggs and avocado and rice and all the yummy things.  Proud of her.

Wahoo!  My first round of the 21-Day Fix starts on Monday and I CANNOT WAIT.  Valentine’s Day treats:  BE GONE.  It’s time to step it up and get in shape.  Who’s coming with me?

The End.

Today, was an absolutely enormous celebration for me.

  • It was my last official day employed as a teacher.
  • My Beachbody paycheck was MORE than a week’s worth of pay of teaching.

The fact that these two things lined up just further solidified my decision to leave.

Teaching is a beautiful profession, but it can also be incredibly overwhelming.  The standards and expectations are constantly changing for teachers – and if you’re not fully committed, you’ll never keep up.

Once Harper was born, my dedication began to fade.  I wanted to spend my time with her.  Each and every tedious task was becoming more and more burdensome as it pulled me away from time with my daughter.   So, I talked with Eric and we decided that it was time I put in my resignation.  It was time that I did what my heart wanted and move my job into the home.  Eric’s salary is enough to sustain our family, but it would mean that we would need to “tighten our belts” a little bit, since we’ve been used to the additional income from teaching.  So, we talked about some opportunities I  might have to just do a  little work on the side.  I thought about Scentsy, Origami Owl, and other “sales programs”.

And then it hit me:  Why not Beachbody?!  I was already heavily involved with my Challenge Group.  My coach had told me several times that I would make an awesome coach myself.  I just had to jump on board.  So.  We said, “Why not?”  Even if it’s not right.  Even if it doesnt work out.  You actually SAVE money on your monthly Shakeology order by signing as a coach….so, there really was no reason not to give it a shot.

And here I am.  One month later.  Officially finished as a teacher and ready to be a full-time Mom.  Completely matching my previous salary and loving every minute of this new challenge.

I just had to set myself free.

21 Day Fix

It’s true – and it’s crazy, but the 21-Day Fix is already selling out.

This new Beachbody program went on sale YESTERDAY, and in only 8 hours, had surpassed their expected orders for the entire week.  Now, if you want the program, you’ll need to wait at least a month for your order.

The good news:  You can still get by with a Challenge Pack.

Because I’m completely in love with Shakeology and all of the goodness that it brings to my life, I’d recommend a Challenge Pack ANYWAY.  A Challenge Pack just means that ShakeO and the workouts go hand-in-hand. But still…

The world is excited.

Moving to Clean Eating

Screen Shot 2014-01-27 at 10.09.41 PM

I have been successful losing weight before.  I didn’t have a goal in mind, but I was happy to see my weight dropping.  It was my junior year of college, and I had joined Weight Watchers with my roommate.  I LOVED it.  Using my points and staying on track was something that I could really handle.  And I was just thrilled every time that I went to weigh-in at a meeting.  I was losing weight every week – and I was proud of myself.

…but, within a few months, I started to see the numbers creep back up on the scale.  My losses were coming back – and I couldn’t figure out what was going on.  To be honest, it took me several years to actually put my finger on the WHY.

Since 2006, I have restarted Weight Watchers over 5 times.  I had been successful in the past, so I just assumed it could work for me again.

The problem, however, is that Weight Watchers wasn’t teaching me anything!  I had an allotment of points to use everyday – but I could use them in any way that I wanted.  Rather than spend my 2 points on a banana, I’d choose a 100 calorie pack.  Instead of “splurging” on some vegetables, I would save up for dessert.  It wasn’t healthy – and it wasn’t helping my body.  Even though my calories were limited, I wasn’t getting the nutrition I needed.

Clean eating is just so different from that.  Instead of seeing myself as restricted or “buying” my treats, I now see what I CAN have.  When meal planning for the week – or going out to a restaurant – I am always thinking about what is best for my body.  Whole grains?  Check!  Fruits and veggies?  Check!  Clean proteins?  Check!  There are so many delicious options out there – and now I know how to find them.

Today, for example, I’ll be cooking up some yummy banana muffins via 100 Days of Real Food.  They’re amazing, filling, and completely great for my body.  I just love that!

Recipe: Whole-Wheat Banana Bread

I am in love with Beachbody coaching for tons of reasons, but the most central point lately is all about:

I don’t know about you, but I am a competitive person.  I like to win.  It doesn’t matter how small or meaningless the competition may be…I want to be the best.  Beachbody is my perfect opportunity because competitions are constant.

Let’s just do a quick run-down:

  • I had the most participation in my Challenge Group, so I won $25.00.
  • I became an Emerald coach in 30 days, so I won $75.00.
  • I earned a certificate and a pin for the aforementioned Emerald status.
  • If I earn SC 5 or 10 each month, I will get a completely free all-inclusive vacation for two to Cancun.
  • If I earn SC 5 or 10 for my first three months as a coach, I earn a free ticket to Beachbody Summit in Las Vegas.
  • My coach sent me a Shakeology Shaker cup and a copy of Success magazine…just because!

February is the start of TEAM CUP – and the entire Beachbody community is competing for amazing prizes – like a trip to LA, dumbbells, Nike ID shoes, etc.

I just feel this constant urge to do better, because I want to WIN.

….and I will.

Pushing Through

In “The Compound Effect” Darren Hardy writes:

“Do you remember playing on merry-go-rounds when you were a kid?  A bunch of your friends piled on, weighing the thing down and then chanted as you worked to get the thing moving.  Getting started was slow going.  The first step was always the hardest – getting it to move from a standstill.  You had to push and pull, grimace and groan and throw your entire body into the effort.  One step, two steps, three steps – it seemed like you were getting nowhere.  After a long and hard effort, finally you were able to get up a little bit of speed and run along side it.  Even though you were moving (and your friends were cheering louder), to get the speed you really wanted, you had to keep running faster and faster, pulling it behind you as you ran with all your might.  Finally, success!  You jumped on and joined your friends in the joy of feeling the wind in your face and watching the outside world turn into a smear of colors.”

…and that’s where I am right now.  I am pushing that merry-go-round with all my might.  It’s moving slowly, but it’s moving.  And I have every confidence that I will, eventually, be able to jump onboard and ride.

Sick! :(

Ick!  I hate being sick.

It came on quick and it completely took over.  Yesterday morning, I woke up feeling out of sorts – but felt that I could press on.  I drank my ShakeO, did my 20-minute workout, and completed a full day “at school”.

But by 3:30 – I was done for.

Thank the good Lord that Harper is a happy kid.  She was calm and perfectly content, even though I was slow to move between spoonfuls at dinner and completely skipped bath time.

And a huge thank you to some lovely neighbors of mine who picked up the necessary Gatorade and saltines for a quick recovery.

Today, I’m back in action.  Did Cardio Party this evening and had a PB and J ShakeO for dinner.  I feel good knowing that I’m getting full nutrition – even just once per day.  Kinda makes it easier to make the rest of your food choices.
